Beard Transplant Techniques

Since the muscular and nervous system in the facial area is complex and sensitive, not all methods used in hair transplantation are suitable for beard transplantation.

Although not as precise and accurate as the DHI technique, the FUE technique is still used and practiced in beard transplantation due to the time, budget and expertise aspects of the operation. However, experienced specialists tend to prefer and recommend using more precise methods.

FUE hair transplantation is performed by the surgeon extracting healthy and more durable hair follicles from their areas and making incisions with a specially manufactured punch tool. The collected hair follicles are placed in previously opened channels in the shedding areas of the beard.

Until recent years, the FUE technique was the most preferred beard transplant operation. It has lost its popularity due to the new hair transplantation techniques developed and the problems that may arise from the FUE method. DHI hair transplantation method is frequently preferred in beard transplantation operations because it is the most sensitive procedure developed.

The DHI technique eliminates many problems that can be caused by the FUE technique. Another reason why the DHI technique is considered superior to FUE is that the hair follicles spend much less time outside the skin. This fact alone increases the chances of permanent attachment of hair follicles to the skin and provides a much lower rate of transplanted hair follicle wastage compared to the FUE technique.

Beard transplantation is a procedure performed under local anesthesia. So the patient does not feel anything. After the operation, the patient may start to feel pain or ache as the effect of anesthesia wears off, but these pains can usually be overcome with painkillers.

DHI and FUE beard transplantation methods do not involve cutting strips or pieces of skin from the donor area to obtain roots. Therefore, in both procedures, there is no incision or stitching of the skin during the operation. Therefore, there is no scarring. There is a possibility of pitting on the skin due to the pores opened in the FUE method, but this is considered to be a very low possibility.

The number of roots to be transplanted during beard transplantation also varies according to the patient and the patient’s condition. In some cases, there may be localized loss of the beard, as in the case known as “beard breakage” among the people. Similarly, the beard may fall out region by region due to reasons such as injury, trauma, hormonal disorders. In such cases, if the area with beard loss is not very large, transplantation can be completed with low amounts such as 2500-3000 roots and these areas can be covered. However, if there is a loss in a large area where there should be a beard, as in the case where the beard does not grow at all, the number of roots needed can increase up to 6000-7000 roots.

The facial area has a very complex nervous and muscular system, so there is a certain risk during the beard transplant operation, but if the DHI technique is performed by an experienced surgeon, the risk in beard transplantation will be minimized.

Each individual’s hormone balance is unique, as is the beard frequency, beard hair structure and color. This determines the time of beard growth. Beard transplantation is generally not recommended before the age of 21 in order for men’s hormone balance to settle and to finalize whether the beard will grow or not.

Both DHI beard transplantation and FUE beard transplantation produce extremely natural-looking results if done in skilled hands.
