Blepharoplasty, or eyelid aesthetics as it is commonly known, is a surgical operation that reshapes the eyelids.

Eyelid Aesthetics and Patients in Need

Eyelids are one of the first areas where aging is evident.

Genetics, facial structure, sun exposure and skin type all play a role in the aging of the eyes.

Blepharoplasty is a great solution to address concerns such as under-eye puffiness, bags, dark circles, loose skin and sagging.

If you suffer from heavy looking upper eyelids, looking “tired” all the time, dark shadows under the eyes, loose skin and wrinkles on the upper and/or lower eyelids, puffiness and bags under the eyes that do not go away with a good sleep, blepharoplasty will give the most definitive results.

Eyelid Aesthetic Techniques (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty surgery is divided into three main categories. These are;

Upper eyelid surgery helps to remove excess skin and give your eyelids a natural and youthful shape.

Upper eyelid surgery generally involves an incision in the natural fold above the eye. Your plastic surgeon will remove excess skin and fat according to your condition and demands.

Lower eyelid surgery is performed to correct bags under the eyes. Cosmetic surgeons can use various surgical techniques to improve the appearance of the patient's lower eyelids. The incisions are usually located on the outer edge of the lower eyelid, just below the eyelashes or inside the eyelid.

Through the incisions, the surgeon will remove excess fat to create a natural look under the eyelid. Depending on the patient's condition, excess, sagging skin may be removed or tightened to provide the most natural and effective results.

There are two types of double eyelid surgery. One is the "suture" method, which does not use incisions, and the other is the "open" method, which uses incisions. The less invasive suture method can be used in patients with skin thin enough to have intermittent spontaneous eyelid folds. The open technique is used for patients with thicker skin or muscle and excess skin.

No. Since the surgery will be performed under anesthesia, the patient will not feel any pain or ache during the operation.

Every healthy adult can have eyelid aesthetics. However, most people who want to have eyelid aesthetics are over the age of 35. People with a genetic predisposition to eyelid sagging may prefer to have this surgery at an earlier age. The point that should be emphasized is the patient’s expectations. Any adult who has sagging eyelids, has problems due to cosmetic problems and has realistic expectations from surgery can have surgery.

Since blepharoplasty surgery removes excess muscle tissue from the eyelids, the operation may make the eyes appear larger, but the surgery does not change the actual size of the eyes.

Eyelid surgery will make you look younger, as tired-looking droopy eyes are associated with irritable and older people.

Eyelid surgery cannot stop the aging process, but the results of successful eyelid surgery will last for many years. Generally, the lower eyelid does not need to be operated on again. If the results of eyelid aesthetics disappear over time or very quickly, it may indicate that the patient needs brow lift surgery instead of eyelid surgery.

Although there is no specific limit, it is generally preferred that the patient reaches the age of 35 for eyelid aesthetics.
